Independent, and specific
About this service
Sub-Zero built-in refrigeration, on the coast between Carmel and Scotts Valley. That is a narrow scope on purpose: it is what makes the diagnosis fast and the parts right.
Built-in and integrated Sub-Zero refrigeration, wine storage, and the ice makers that go with them.
A narrow list, worked properly
The 500 and 600 series built-ins, the 700-series columns, the BI cabinets and the Classic cabinets that followed them, the integrated columns, PRO models, the wine storage units, and the built-in and undercounter ice machines. That is the list.
Specialising is not a marketing position, it is a practical one. These machines have their own logic: two independent sealed systems on most built-ins, cammed self-closing doors, model-specific parts down to the fan bracket, and a refrigerant that changed twice across the production history. Somebody who works on everything has to look all of that up. We do not, and the visit is shorter for it.
Why the coast
Because it is a genuinely different job here. Within a mile of open water, chloride corrodes condenser fins, seizes hinge cams and hardens gaskets on a schedule that has nothing to do with how old the appliance is. Half of what we do between Pacific Grove and Capitola is that story wearing different faces, and it is not a story that gets told properly by a service based over the hill.
Short list, and all four are checkable on the day.
-
Cheap checks before expensive ones
Condenser, fans and door before meters. Meters before gauges. Gauges last. A large share of calls stop at step one, and that is a good outcome even though it is a small invoice.
-
A quote before any work
Written, itemised, parts and labour separated, and it includes the return visit if the part has to be ordered. Nothing starts on a verbal estimate.
-
The manufacturer's warranty comes first
If a fault looks like it sits inside a warranty Sub-Zero still owes you, we say so, even though that means the work goes elsewhere. Checking a serial number costs nothing and it is your money.
-
Plain answers about what is finished
Some units are not worth the repair, and a couple of specific faults are not repairable at a sensible cost at all. We would rather lose the job than take it and discover that halfway through.
Being clear about the edges saves everybody a wasted trip.
- No email and no contact form. Phone or the booking link. Both reach someone who can talk about the symptom.
- No appliance sales and no installations. Diagnosis and repair only.
- No claim to any manufacturer relationship. Independent appliance repair service. Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting as an agent of Sub-Zero Group, Inc. or any manufacturer. Brand and model names are used to describe the equipment we service.
- No refrigerant top-ups without finding the leak. If it lost charge there is a hole, and the hole is the job.
- No pricing over the phone for work nobody has looked at. We will narrow it to two or three candidates and stop there.
- Refrigerator repair Built-ins, columns and older 500 and 600 series boxes.
- Freezer repair Frost walls, failed defrost circuits, drawers that stop sealing.
- Ice maker repair Frozen fill tubes, weeping valves, scale from Pajaro Valley water.
- Wine storage repair Zones that read right and store wrong, and damp coastal cellars.
- Not cooling The four checks that separate a dirty condenser from a sealed system.
- Sealed system and compressor Recovery, leak trace, drier, deep vacuum and a weighed charge.
- Salt air, corrosion and door seals What chloride does to fins, hinge cams and gaskets on this coast.
Talk to someone about the symptom
The model number and what the compartments are reading is enough to get the conversation somewhere useful.
