Where we actually go

Sub-Zero repair near me, on the Monterey Bay coast

Two counties, one route. Monterey Peninsula in one direction, Santa Cruz County in the other, and the valley towns in between. If you are on this list we come to you; if you are not, we will tell you rather than send someone two hours down Highway 1.

A working day on the peninsula runs north to south. The route is the reason we can be practical about which towns we cover well.

02 Before you call Three things

None of this is a test. It is just what turns a guess into a parts list before anyone drives out.

What to have in front of you

  • The plate. Model and serial, photographed whole. Upper left wall inside the fresh-food compartment on most built-ins, behind the grille on some columns.
  • Real temperatures. Whatever any thermometer says in each compartment, rather than "warm". A number changes the diagnosis; an adjective does not.
  • What changed, and when. Including anything that seems unrelated: a power cut, a plumbing job, a door left open, a remodel that boxed the unit in.

Four from around the bay

Across 612 customer reviews this service holds an average rating of 4.9 out of 5. These four came from Pacific Grove, Santa Cruz, Aptos and Monterey.

Our built-in was running all day and never getting cold enough. He pulled the grille off and showed me the condenser — the fins were white and powdery from the salt air, which I had never once thought about in twenty years here. Cleaned it, replaced the condenser fan motor, and explained how often to vacuum it this close to the water.

Freezer had a solid sheet of frost on the back wall. He tested the defrost heater and the bimetal on the spot rather than just guessing, found the heater open, and had one on the van. Took maybe ninety minutes including the paperwork.

    Marcus T., Santa Cruz — May 2026

  • 5 out of 5

Door on the refrigerator side had stopped pulling itself shut and the unit was icing up. He found the hinge cam corroded and the grease turned to paste. Replaced the cam and the gasket, and did the paper test all the way around before he left.

    Rob M., Aptos — April 2026

Ice maker was making hollow cubes and then stopped altogether. Frozen fill tube from a valve that was weeping. He replaced the water valve, cleared the tube, and checked the inlet screen for scale while he was in there. Straightforward and no upselling.

Questions about coverage

  • How close to me are you, really?

We work the Monterey Bay coast as one route rather than sitting in one town, so the honest answer is that the peninsula and Santa Cruz County are both covered properly and Salinas and Carmel Valley are covered regularly. If you are outside that, we will say so instead of driving.

  • What do you need from me on the phone?

The model and serial from the plate, what the compartments are actually reading, and what changed and when. Those three things decide what goes on the van, and they are the difference between one visit and two.

  • Do you charge for coming out?

$89 for the service call, which covers the visit and the diagnosis. It is waived when you book the repair with us. Parts and labour are quoted before any work starts.

  • Is it worth calling if I do not know the model number?

Yes, but find it if you can. On most built-ins it is on the upper left interior wall of the fresh-food section; on columns it can be behind the lower grille. A photograph of the whole plate is ideal.

  • Do you only work on Sub-Zero?

Sub-Zero built-in and integrated refrigeration is what this service is set up around: the model families, the parts, and the failure patterns. That focus is the reason the diagnosis tends to be quick.
